Sétáló street / Kossuth Square

Walking along Sétáló street from the Csaba Center, you can admire the downtown of Békéscsaba. One of Békéscsaba's busiest and best-known public squares is Kossuth Square. The statue in the middle of the square commemorates the Hungarian War of Independence. It is surrounded by elegant buildings, including the City Hall, which is one of the most impressive buildings in Békéscsaba. Széchenyi Liget is the largest and oldest park in Békéscsaba, which is an excellent place to relax and enjoy the proximity of nature. Walking under the green trees of the park, you can feel far away from the noise of the city. There are playgrounds, sports fields and picnic areas in the park, so we can also organize ideal family programs. The special jewel of the grove is the pavilion located here, and the beer garden is now shining in its new splendor.

Day trips

Póstelek, Parkerdő and
Wenckheim-Széchenyi Castle Ruins

Póstelek is located just a few kilometers from Békéscsaba, a charming hiking and picnic area built around the ruins of the former Széchenyi-Wenckheim castle. The castle was built in the 19th century, and although only its ruins remain today, the surrounding park and forest are still impressive. There are pleasant walking paths on the site between the dense trees, and the romantic atmosphere of the ruins is a particularly popular spot for nature walkers and photographers. A pond, a petting zoo and the nearby Mokus Csárda await visitors. The route is also excellent for a bicycle trip.

Szabadkígyós and Wenckheim Castle

The imposing Wenckheim Castle is located in Szabadkígyós and was built at the end of the 19th century, in Neo-Renaissance style. The castle and its huge English park are an ideal location for a pleasant excursion. Walking in the park along winding paths, beautiful pond and fountains in the park, you can also admire the architectural details of the castle. Wenckheim Castle also offers special guided tours where visitors can learn about the history of the castle and the life of the aristocratic family that once lived there.

Gyula and Almásy Castle

Gyula is located in the neighborhood of Békéscsaba. The distance can also be covered by bike for those who has an entrepreneurial spirit on the developed bike path. It boasts a number of historical sights, including the Almásy Castle, Gyula Castle and Castle Baths, the Centennial Confectionery and the annual Gyula Végvár Days town festival. The renovated Almásy Castle was handed over in 2016, making room for the Munkácsy exhibition, which can be viewed until 2025. There are permanent programs, including a visit to the castle, a cellar exhibition and evening guided tours. Tired visitors can enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee in the café or have lunch in the restaurant.

Gastronomy

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Békéscsaba? The sausage? Csabai is the real thing, that's a fact!
It is also important that this is not the only thing that defines us, as there are so many excellent flavors and foods in our area.

Therefore, in our short recommendation, we mainly focused on the places here,
so that everyone gets a bite of Békéscsa for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Breakfast and brunch places are becoming more and more popular here too, so we start our recommendation with them. The continuation also includes street food and traditional restaurants. It is true that we highlighted these as a teaser because of their uniqueness, but it is worth clicking on the button below to continue browsing the long list of options.

The gastronomy of Békéscsaba is certainly not limited to sausages; in addition to the world-famous delicacy, many other foods and drinks typical of the landscape await visitors here.
